Furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, drooping eyebrows and hooding of the skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you are and feel. Whether age or heredity causes these changes, a forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, can provide a more youthful, alert and energetic appearance.

Relatively slight changes in the position of the brows can have a dramatic and remarkable effect on the appearance of your eyes and entire orbital area. An aesthetically pleasing eyebrow configuration is a sign of youth and can highlight the appearance of your eyes. A droopy eyebrow can cause hooding of the eyelids and contribute to the appearance of excess eyelid skin. This can contribute to a tired or sad look. Many women intuitively know this and will pluck their eyebrows or apply make-up to help compensate for these changes. In addition, vertical creases between the eyebrows and horizontal forehead lines contribute to making one look older or project the image of being angry or sad.. Correcting these changes can make a dramatic difference in an individual's entire facial appearance helping to give a more youthful and alert look.

Surgery

Dr. Dubin performs foreheadplasty.as an endoscopic procedure. This means that very small isolated incisions are made completely within the hair. These incisions are only for access for the endoscope and instruments. No scalp or forehead skin is removed. The operation works by altering the position of the muscles that control brow shape and position. This is an extremely precise procedure that allows for individual fine adjustments of brow position and contour. It also softens the appearance of forehead lines and wrinkles. The surgery takes about one and a half hours to perform and is usually done under monitored intravenous sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. This is an outpatient procedure and the patient goes home to be cared for by a family member or friends.

Professional aftercare is available if the patient desires. Patients are usually socially recovered and back to day-to-day and work activities within a week. Patients may resume controlled exercise at two weeks and complete unrestricted activities by one month. There can be some temporary limited numbness of the forehead for a month or two but this recovers and is self-limiting.

Many patients are concerned about having the look of an overly elevated brow. Dr. Dubin stresses that this outcome is not inherent to the surgery but occurs when the surgeon does not have a well-developed artistic sense of proper brow aesthetics.

After an endoscopic foreheadplasty the patient should look younger and more alert but not overcorrected with a surprised or staring look. This procedure can be done by itself or combined with eyelid surgery for face lifting depending upon the patient's age and goals.
